Postcards from 2017

Postcards from 2017

Man, these years really do fly by don’t they?

To say this year was a rollercoaster would be an understatement, jam-packed full of many highs and accompanying lows, laughs and tears, and a horde of new experiences.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the whole ‘new year new me’ mantra and be raring to go to start the new year afresh, with new goals and new adventures to tick off your bucket list, eager to brush the past year under the rug and move on with life. It’s never really until you take the time to reflect on everything you’ve done to really appreciate what a whirlwind it’s been, and what you’ve achieved.

So without further adieu, here comes my highlight reel…

Moving out

Okay, amidst the news of pretty much everyone on the internet adulting and buying their first homes, this probably doesn’t seem like a biggie in comparison. But to me, renting a flat as a couple is huge. I’ve only ever lived with my parents, multiple flatmates, or that time I just had my own bunk in an RV across America, and so far it’s feeling pretty splendid. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful space to call my first little home flying the nest, or anyone better to share it with.

Exploring new parts of the UK

I’ve always been desperate to fly off to somewhere new and exotic, but this year was mainly spent focusing on our own little island and getting to see new parts of it around other commitments (and the expenses involved with moving out). I finally ticked Manchester off my list – and definitely want to return – as well as Plymouth and a bit of the Midlands. I’m not really one for resolutions, but I’m making a pact with myself to travel to more of the places on my list in 2018, kicking off the year in Edinburgh next week!

Rocking out in Werchter

Continuing my love for European festivals, we headed to Rock Werchter in Belgium and danced away to the likes of Imagine Dragons, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, White Lies, and catching an awesome Linkin Park set (RIP Chester 🙁 ) amongst loads more.

Gigs, gigs, gigs

On top of that gem, I’ve gorged myself on music all year, but there’s been no change there. Watching The Killers’ return to our lives (TWICE) has been an all time fave, FINALLY seeing Coldplay, British Summertime, Dot to Dot Festival, as well as fangirling on the likes of Tom Grennan, The Big Moon, Coasts, Don Broco and Royal Blood to name a few. Even MORE in 2018 please.

Making Cardiff my home

But above all, getting out and exploring the city I now call home with my love has just been lush. If you do nothing else with this brand new year friends, just get out there and love where you live.

It’s the little things that make life grand, whether it be discovering a new band to listen to, a new cute gin bar opening in your city to visit, decorating your new flat, and spending time with the ones you love. I for one am making this year one to kick myself up the arse and visit the places I desperately want to explore, and I hope you spend your 2018 ticking everything you possibly can – don’t leave it for another time, because as we all well know, our time is precious.

Happy New Year! Make it a memorable one.
