Well 2015, it was one helluva year, right?! A crazy, spontaneous one full of crushing lows and soaring highs, unexpected endings and spontaneous new beginnings, and memories that will stick with me for a lifetime.
In the past year, I’ve had the honour of being bridesmaid to two of my beautiful best friends (albeit on a VERY busy double wedding weekend), jumped around like a crazy lady in the crowd at numerous gigs, attended my first film premiere as an actual guest, and explored many exciting corners of London before eventually packing up, quitting my job and leaving. I’ve discovered new music that’s given me full on goosebumps, eaten burgers that have been so good they should be illegal, felt the adrenaline of stepping out of my comfort zone, and seen a fragment of the wonders that the world has to offer – and I know that it’s only going to get better from here.
But before I sound too much like a massive Braggy Barbara, I’ve had my lows too – who hasn’t? With every up, there eventually comes a down – from wandering under the what-the-hell-am-i-doing-with-my-life cloud, to hangovers from hell and going on dates I never want to repeat, and just having those weekends where you literally can’t even bring yourself to get out of bed and away from The Flash.
People and places have come in and out of my life and along the way I’ve learned two very important lessons that I’ll pass on: do whatever it is that makes you happy, and let go of anyone or anything that doesn’t belong in your life anymore – whether that be a person, your hometown or that extra pair of shoes that you simply don’t have room for (as if that was a thing, I always have room). It’s a refreshing realisation, and one that I’ll be applying to the new year ahead, because after all, you only get one life, so live it however the hell you want to, and make it a good one.
I hope you’re all filling up your glasses with whatever your chosen poison may be – and joining me on a big fat cheers to the year ahead!! Bring on 2016 – we got this.
